What do the girls do when they have free time? Create
The activities in the Girl’s Center in Eilat were recently revealed to the general public. The Center, which serves as a social and therapeutical center, opened at the beginning of the year and is operated by the Department of Social Services in the Municipality, in partnership with WIZO and the Ministry of Welfare.
Recently a colorful happening was held at the Center in order to disclose its activities to the general public, and counselors in the high schools in Eilat.
Scores of new girls, their parents and professional from the various social services came to the Center and enjoyed seeing the creative activities, ranging from a make up corner to fortune telling using cards, and much more. An exhibition portraying the works of the girls who had been in the Center for a longer period was shown and all the visitors received a gift of a diary. The refreshments were donated by the Royal Beach and Neptune hotels. Avital Shalem, the social worker of the Center, acted as moderator.
The Center for Girls opened at the beginning of the year and is operated by the Social Services Department in the Municipality, in partnership with the World WIZO federation in Germany. It is located in an area of villas and has ten rooms.
The purpose of the Center, which is a Therapeutical Center is: to bring about a change in the lifestyle of the girls, to strengthen normative patterns of behavior, to improve their self image, to provide a positive atmosphere in which they can spend their free time, to encourage their personal talents, to improve their personal relationships with their families and to give them personal empowerment.
The Center can absorb up to one hundred girls, and is open during the afternoon and evening hours. It provides the girls with a homely atmosphere. Fun and creative activities, enrichment courses, cooking and baking, help with homework, guidance and direction, professional advice, and individual and group therapy are provided to the girls and their parents.
The Center also has a computer room, library and exercise room. A hot meal is provided every day.
